If you're like me, creating a packing list for a trip is a difficult task.
First, you have to predict the weather more accurately than NOAA or the Weather Channel staff. Second, you need to match everything to one or two pairs of totally comfortable shoes, both of which must be cute and washable. Third, you have to make room for beach towels, cooking utensils and anything else you might possibly need during your absence.
Finally, there's the reality of the return trip.
You never come home with fewer items - there's always something you just have to bring back.
To get the process started, it's helpful to sit down and really think through where you're going and what will be available to you while you're there. I call this a packing strategy. Once you've browsed through our packing checklist, get everything out and see if it will fit into your suitcase. Then, take out an outfit or two. This will give you room for souvenirs and last-minute changes to your list - particularly if the weather forecast changes just before you leave home.
